(August 7, 2009 - Montreal) Galaxie, Your Musical Universe, is proud to present the GALAXIE RISING STARS AWARD and prize of $3,000 to the music group Chinatown for their performance at the 4th edition of the Osheaga Music and Arts Festival held in Montreal on August 1st and 2nd. The Galaxie team was present on site with a voting booth facing the Tree Stage where Canadian emerging artists were featured. Each Canadian band that performed on the Tree Stage over the two festival days were eligible for the Rising Star Award. The winner was selected by a public vote, with every visitor to the Galaxie booth receiving one ballot. While every band that performed on the Tree Stage was deserving of the prize, Chinatown was the clear winner based on the popular vote.

One of the few acts performing in French, Chinatown, originally from Montreal, was formed in 2007 by musician Pierre-Alain Faucon (vocals/keyboard) and his friend Félix Dyotte (vocals/guitar). Julien Fargo (vocals/guitar), Toby Cayouette (bass), and Gabriel Rousseau (drums) joined soon after and the group quickly settled on their unique style and sound. It didn’t take long for the band to be established as a credible newcomer with a bright future.

To date, 750 artists have benefited from the Program.
