Galaxie supports emerging Canadian Jazz Musicians at the Montreal International Jazz Festival

Apr 29, 2010

Montreal, April 29, 2010 – Galaxie, Your Musical Universe, is proud to support emerging Canadian jazz musicians through its partnership with the 2010 Montreal International Jazz Festival. Galaxie will present two indoor club series, the Invitation series taking place at the Gésu as well as the Le Club series at l'Astral. These exciting concert series will showcase outstanding jazz musicians in intimate jazz club settings. In addition, through the Galaxie Rising Stars Program, one deserving up-and-coming artist will be awarded a bursary of $5,000 for the best original song performed during the competition. The objective of the Galaxie Rising Stars Program is to help provide opportunities for emerging Canadian music talent in all genres to be heard and to support the best of this talent with cash bursaries to advance their careers.

Since its inception in 2000, over 750 artists have directly benefitted from the Galaxie Rising Stars Program. Each year, the Program works with more than 30 music industry partners across Canada to discover, encourage and promote new artists. "While the Montreal International Jazz Festival is well known for the quality of top international acts who perform, there are also many extraordinary Canadian musicians who are given the chance to play for appreciative audiences.”, says Louis Bellavance, Director of the Galaxie Rising Stars Program. "The Galaxie Rising Star Program recognizes this emerging talent, and helps provide the venue for these performances, and rewards the best original song performance with a significant cash bursary.", he added.
